Does Caregiver Stress Bring Out The Jekyll And Hyde In You?
I don’t know about you but when I’m “stressed out”, people need to “watch out!!” Let me share with you why family and friends have given me a wide berth lately.
My mom has some health conditions which need constant attention. We have had an ongoing conversation about her moving into an assisted living facility. (Actually, for the past two years I have talked, and she has turned a deaf ear.)
Three months ago mom called me and said she needs to move from her senior apartment. She just can’t handle living there anymore and wanted to move in with me…
It’s hard to say which of us was more shocked that I said NO.
Ten days later mom moved out of her senior apartment anyway. Her next place, in my opinion, was a disaster waiting to happen. I helped her move in spite of my misgivings, for my own reasons:
- To lessen her stress
- Keep the lines of communication open
- Check out the place for myself
- Meet her room mate
Remember how I thought mom’s choice was a disaster waiting to happen?
Talk about turning into Jekyll and Hyde from caregiver stress!!
